Ok, I'm going to be honest here. I really like stanced cars. When done right, they look classy, in a 21st century rebel type of way.
It's the tyre and suspension equivalent to jacking your car's ass in to space, like it was popular in the 1970's. I do think it's a waste of good, drivable cars, though. I also think that "too low" is "unsafe". Therefore, I propose a solution. A solution that takes inspiration from the lowriders! Low riders use a specific trick to make their cars low: Air Suspension!
Why not just fit all stanced cars with air shocks and springs? If the owner can afford to spend upwards of $3000 on some nice wheels, surely he can afford a $1500 set of air shocks off a Touareg, and surely he has the expertise to fit them, as you would normal suspension! This way, you'd get the best of all 3 worlds!
World 1: "If sparks don't fly, the ride's too high" world. With a flick of the switch, your 2008 Honda Civic Si can go as low as your chasis would let you!
World 2: "Daily Driver" world. Flick the switch again and guess what? now you can actually get out of your driveway, without having to add "get new sump" to daily list of things to do
World 3: (optional) "Hellaunflush" world. Bored of the "lo and slo" crowd? Hit the switch, pump up the system, and your once stanced WRX can, and will go out on those dirt roads you and your buddies call "The rally special stage"
Seriously, though. Wouldn't air shocks make stancing/lifting a bit easier to deal with?

It would, but I think a lot of it comes down to cost. Some of the guys who are hard core into this stuff do lower their cars with bags, instead of being "static" with coils or coilovers.
Honestly if a full air ride kit existed for my car I'd do it just so it'd ride like its on a cloud again. Plus a properly built air ride system can handle very well.

This could just be an illusion, but don't air shocks drastically slush-up the handling of a car? I can't imagine taking a Subie with air suspension out on a rally stage and having as much fun as with a specially-built performance suspension system.

There's already a huge community that uses bags, the static ones are the impractical stanced cars. Usually because they can't afford bags, but anyone can cut their coils. Both types think theirs is better, bags because, well, they're better. Static, because they're more hardcore I guess....I dunno. I bought my car with cut H&R race springs because it was very cheap, and I can attest that while static is dumb, it also feels like a go kart, which is just as fun as it sounds.

Well yes, but this is looking from a perspective of a person who wants all of the 3 listed things above, low looks, usability and hoonability. Would you rather have a rally built WRX that you'd also have to deal with on your commute, or would you rather have a bit less stability when honing, and actually have a non liquefied spine after your drive to work? Keep in mind that this car would also be your only car. I can't really see stance people "cheating on their girls" with other cars, because that's wrong! plus, when you're cheating on your actual girl with another girl, you want a cool looking, low car that you can roll up in, and annoy her parents/friends from!

modern air ride suspension isn't so bad. Not appropriate for track work, but they would be as safe as most beigemobile suspension is.

I must say I think Air Suspensions are really the best middle ground and can be the treaty to end this war.

I think low cars are OK, stanced cars on the streets are stupid. Your idea makes sense, but these idiot kids want to drive around like that, then complain their shit breaks all the time and they are broke. That's how a guy I know is at least, and all the friends who comment on his facebook.
Stance should be a show car thing, which would make it fine. If your car is too low to drive, but looks super cool, then either air suspension that thing or trailer it. It becomes a hazard for the people around them as crazy as some get.

When I bought my first S13, it had some serious business grounded-to-the-ground suspension. Shortly, I realized that the suspension wasn't just stiff; it was blown. I'm not talking like "Oh jeez, we hit that speedbump too fast, didn't we?", I'm talking about "Hey Jose, gimme that sledgehammer. I'm gonna make these eBay shocks look SOOOOOOOO good". Swapped em out for stock suspension.
My current S13 has some modest Apexi lowering suspension on it, which I like. I ended up selling the blown suspension on craigslist (I provided FULL DISCLOSURE THAT THEY WERE BLOWN) to a kid for like $80. He claims it was for a show car. Somehow, I don't believe him.
I guess that got a bit off topic. My bad.
